Chronology of Catholic Dioceses:Notes on the Mission «sui iuris» of Afghanistan, 2002
In the October, 2002, issue of Acta Apostolicae Sedis, the following provision is mentioned:
"die 16 Maii - R. P. Iosephum Moretti ... primum constituit Moderatorum ecclesiasticum Missionis sui iuris in Afghanistania."
This means that there now is a jurisdiction in Afghanistan. We do not know when the apostolic constitution was (or will be) published, but hopefully it states from where this mission sui iuris was detached. Theoretically, there is also the possibility that this jurisdiction is considered as a downgraded continuation of the Apostolic Prefecture erected in 1879.
