Chronology of Catholic Dioceses:Note on the Diocese of Avellaneda-Lanús, Argentina - 2001
On 25 April 2001, it was made public by the Argentinian Catholic News Agency AICA that the Pope had detached the sector Lanús from the diocese of Lomas de Zamora, and joined to the territory of the diocese of Avellaneda. The new name of the diocese av Avellaneda was determined to be from now on Avellaneda-Lanús.

"Buenos Aires: Nueva diócesis de Avellaneda-Lanús
El Papa Juan Pablo II dispuso que el partido de Lanús sea desmembrado de la diócesis de Lomas de Zamora y que junto con el territorio de la actual diócesis de Avellaneda, que gobierna pastoralmente monseñor Rubén Frassia, pase a formar la nueva diócesis de Avellaneda-Lanús."
