Chronology of Catholic Dioceses:Notes on the Diocese of San Jose del Guaviare, 1999
The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II has elevated (October 29th 1999) the Vicariate Apostolic of San Jose del Guaviare to the rank of diocese with the same name and territorial area, making it suffragan of the metropolitan Church of Bogota.
The territory, borders and same of the new diocese of San Jose del Guaviare, remain those of the former Vicariate Apostolic and the patron of the diocese and of the cathedral will be St Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
