Chronology of Catholic Dioceses:Notes on the changes in Marche, Italy, 11 March 2000

On 11 March 2000 it was made known that the Holy Father had reorganized the Ecclesian Provinces of the region Marche in Italy. He

  1. erected the Province of Pesaro, elevating the Diocese of Pesaro (previously a suffragan of Urbino-Urbania-Sant'Angelo in Vado) to Metropolitan, giving it as suffragan sees the Archdiocese of Urbino-Urbania-Sant'Angelo in Vado (which no more is a Metropolitan Archdiocese, but an ordinary Archdiocese) and the diocese of Fano-Fossombrone-Cagli-Pergola (previously a suffragan of Urbino etc.) .

  2. transferred the Diocese of Ascoli Piceno (previously immediately subject to the Apostolic See) to the Province of Fermo, in which it is now a suffragan Diocese.

  3. transferred the Diocese of Fabriano-Matelica (previously immediately subject to the Apostolic See), and the Prelature of Loreto (also previously immediately subject to the Apostolic See) to the Province of Ancona-Osimo, in which they are now suffragans.

  4. transferred the Diocese of Senigallia (previously a suffragan of Urbino-Urbania-Sant'Angelo in Vado) to the Province of Ancona-Osimo, in which it is now a suffragan Diocese.
