Chronology of Catholic Dioceses:Notes on the Division of the Apostolic Vicariate of Laos, 1950
In 1950, the Apostolic Vicariate of Laos was split. That part still in Laos was constituted as the Prefecture of Thakhek (Thakhek is the capital of Khamouane province in Laos). The remainder of the Apostolic Vicariate of Laos was Thai territory and was re-constituted as the VA of Thare (its seat is at Ban Tha Rae - a village outside Sakhon Nakhon in Northeastern Thailand). This explains why our Chronology regarding Laos does not show how the Apostolic Vicariate of Laos apparently disappeared without trace - this information is contained under Thailand.
