The source Guida says that "The mission (of Mahenge) was erected into an Apostolic Vicariate in 1897, with territory detached from the Vicariate of Dar-es-Salaam, and entrusted to the Cappuchines (O.F.M.Cap.) of the Swiss Province", and elevated to diocese in 1964. The AP 2000 mentions no such AV. Although we suppose that there must be some truth to the information in Guida, the details are hard to reconcile with other information.
