Chronology of Catholic Dioceses:Notes on the diocese of Caracas / Santiago de Venezuela 1637/38
By force of royal approval from Spain, granted on 20 July 1637, the See of only diocese of Venezuela was transferred from Coro to Caracas. This change was confirmed by the cathedral chapter on 7 March 1637, and later appooved by the Holy See. Thus, both 1637 and 1638 are acceptable as indications of when the change took place. We have chosen 1638, as that date is the one which alludes to the approval of the Holy See.
