POPE JOHN PAUL'S CALENDAR FOR JANUARY, FEBRUARY

 

 

VATICAN CITY, JAN 17, 1997 (VIS) - The calendar of liturgical events over which the Holy Father will preside in January and February was made public today by the Office of the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff:

JANUARY

Sunday, 19: Pastoral visit to the Roman parish of St. Mary of Hope at 9 a.m. Mass.
Saturday, 25: At 6 p.m., in the basilica of St. Paul's-Outside-the-Walls. Mass at the conclusion of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, with the participation of the Catholicos of Cilicia of the Armenians Aram I Keshishian.

FEBRUARY

Saturday, 1: Rosary at 8:30 p.m.
Sunday, 2: Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord. In the Vatican basilica at 9:30 a.m., the blessing of candles, procession and Mass with religious.
Sunday, 9: Pastoral visit to the Roman parish of St. Jude Thaddeus ai Cessati Spiriti at 9 a.m. Mass.
Tuesday, 11: Memory of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lourdes, 5th World Day of the Sick. Mass in the Vatican basilica at 4:30 p.m. for the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi and UNITALSI.
Wednesday, 12: Ash Wednesday. At 4:30 p.m. in St. Sabina Basilica, Mass, blessing and imposition of ashes.
Sunday, 16: First Sunday of Lent. Pastoral visit to Roman parish of St. Andrew Avellino, at 9 a.m. Mass. At 6 p.m. in the Apostolic Palace, the start of spiritual exercises for the Roman Curia.
Saturday, 22: Feast of the Chair of Peter. Apostolic Palace, 9 a.m. Conclusion of spiritual exercises.
Sunday, 23: Second Sunday of Lent. pastoral visit to the Roman parish of Holy Cross at Via Flaminia at 9 a.m. Mass.
