Bookish Boost for World Youth Day 2002

Aims to Help with Spiritual Preparation for July Event

OTTAWA, NOV. 26, 2001 (Zenit.org).- A new book helps groups get ready spiritually for World Youth Day in Toronto.

"Salt and Light: Preparing for World Youth Day 2002" was jointly produced by the WYD National Office and the Office de Catéchèse du Québec, and was published simultaneously in English and French by Novalis. The book was written in response to many requests for supporting the preparation of groups planning to attend World Youth Day next July 23-28.

"Salt and Light" is an invitation to young people to embark on a spiritual journey. With eight months to go before the event, small groups can prepare by studying one chapter a month.

Archbishop Luigi Ventura, the apostolic nuncio to Canada, hosted the book launch in Toronto's nunciature last Thursday.

Key people in the organization of WYD 2002 attended the book launch: Cardinal James Francis Stafford, president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity; Basilian Father Thomas Rosica, national director and chief executive office of WYD 2002; Sister Francine Guilmette, FMA, associate director of the event; Father Serge Comeau, catechesis coordinator for WYD 2002 and major contributor to "Salt and Light"; and Michael O'Hearn, the Novalis publisher.

WYD 2002 will bring together hundreds of thousands of young Catholics from more than 100 countries, to meet one another and the Pope.
