New York a Challenge to Christian Youth, Says Cardinal

MADRID, Spain, JULY 18, 2002 (Zenit.org).- About 700 youths from the Archdiocese of Madrid, who are visiting New York before heading on to World Youth Day, got some advice parting from their archbishop in Spain.

When bidding the young people farewell, Cardinal Antonio María Rouco Varela said that New York rises "as a formidable challenge to Christian youth, called by the Lord to give apostolic testimony and service in the new times that are approaching."

In St. Peter's Parish, next to the World Trade Center site, the young Spaniards will "pray for the victims of terrorism" and renew their "commitment to peace that comes from Christ," the cardinal said.
