Catholic Church Introduces Human Rights Concepts In Schools

The Catholic Church in Liberia has disclosed in Monrovia that next academic year all Catholic schools throughout Liberia will teach basic human rights concepts. The church said this will create a human rights conscious society in the country.

The disclosure was made Saturday in Monrovia by the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission (JPC) at the end of a two-week human rights education consultative workshop organized to train Catholic schools' Social Studies instructors in Monrovia how to impart human rights education into the students.

The workshop was organized by the JPC under its Human Rights Textbook Project. Recently, Catholic Archbishop Michael Francis threatened litigation against Social Studies teachers in the Catholic school system engaged in sexual activities with students.

Meanwhile, JPC said it is to shortly extend its human rights education imitative to other public and private schools throughout Liberia.
